Career
Labouring on building sites I relished the toughest work on site. Learning new skills I was soon trusted with more technical work. However, I strived for something more aesthetically orientated and started out as a freelance landscaper.
Everything changed in 2017 with the first RHS Chatsworth Flower Show near my home in Sheffield. I discovered that the contractor behind the most high-profile gardens at RHS Chelsea was also building a garden for Jo Thompson at Chatsworth. I approached Jody Lidgard with my portfolio and he gave me a chance. The garden we built won 'People's Choice' and I worked with Jody on further award-winning gardens, including the gold medal winning Wedgwood Garden at RHS Chelsea 2018.
Through Jody I met up-and-coming Yorkshire-based contractor and designer, Nick of Nicholas Edward Gardens. Nick and I have worked together on 5 gold medal winning gardens last year alone - with a string of other exciting projects in the pipeline.
In 2018, fellow young landscaper Jacob Botting and I teamed up to enter the BBC Gardener's World Young Landscaper of the Year competition. Competing against the best young landscapers in the country we were tasked with building and planting a design by Diarmuid Gavin and our garden won.
Last summer I made my design debut at Tatton Park Flower Show. I acted as both designer and building contractor on my project so I could ensure that every aspect was executed to perfection. I was fortunate enough to secure a sponsorship from Hortus Loci, the UK’s premier plant supplier and I enlisted the help of Cherry Carmen, one of the best plantswomen in the country to achieve the wild, diaphanous look I was after.
With the knowledge I've acquired and an unbeatable team, I aim to become one of the top names associated with quality landscaping over the coming years.
